Dear Friends,
This month's newsletter will be a slight departure for me. My good friend and concert manager, Tom Ingrassia, attended my concert at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival earlier this month, and will share some impressions of that experience. As always, I welcome your personal messages at scott@scottlamlein.com, and wish you a wonderful summer!
Peace,
Scott
Thanks, Scott! My wife, Barbara, and I spent a delightful week in Charleston, SC, which is a beautiful city! First and foremost, the Spoleto Festival USA and Piccolo Spoleto are absolutely amazing events. Over 700 arts events transform Charleston into the Cultural Capitol of the country for a 17-day period! Charleston also is known as the "Holy City," because of the number of historic churches there--over 100!--many of which have magnificent organs.

The Festivals are invitational events--and the L'Organo Series to which Scott was invited schedules only 10 organ recital during the Festival. Scott's June 4 concert was held at the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul, dating to 1815. The audience of approximately 150 was, I can honestly say, enthralled by Scott's performance, as evidenced by the extended ovation he received at the conclusion. The concert also was recorded for future broadcast of SC Public Radio's popular "Carolina Concerts" program.

Here are just a few of the accolades Scott received following the concert:
William Gudger, the Cathedral's music director said, "Scott's program was one of the most delightful hours of music-making during a festival crammed with other recitals and concerts. The program included many old favorites played with engaging style and inventive registrations, and Scott made sensitive use of our Kney organ. The organizers of Piccolo Spoleto coudn't have been happier for selecting Scott to play on this premier series."
According to Robert Gant, a member of the L'Organo Selection Committee, "Scott's L'Organo recital was a highlight. His playing exhibited solid musicianship throughout. We all sat back and enjoyed exemplary performances of both old chestnuts and some less familiar things. You will never hear the two Buxtehude pieces played any better."
And finally, as she was leaving the concert, I overheard one audience member comment to another," This was the best concert I've heard all week. I wish it had been longer!"
There's an old show business addage, "Leave them wanting more." This Scott surely did. I may be biased, but this was a major triumph for Scott's concert career. I am sure that when he returns to South Carolina later this year, for a concert in Beaufort, he will encounter a very receptive audience.
